summary of australia trip ; Wednesday, December 23, 2009 13:42
i think that if i were to summarise my australia trip without pictures, it'd be very boring. however, my brother is using the desktop WITH THE PICTURES and i'm using his laptop now so i can't really upload anything. please wait. (:
apparently i went to training yesterday, three hours after landing in sg. i don't really know why either. and i tried bt. landing on my neck twice. it hurts, but it's no one's fault. it's just my poor technique. and i know it. i have no flair for tumbling.
- day 1 - tangalooma wild dolphin resort (qld).
SOMEONE CAME TO THE AIRPORT TO SEE ME OFF! HAHAHA.
anyway, i took the night flight, so i reached brisbane international airport early in the morning. it's two hours faster there, and it makes a lot of difference. you'll find out later.
the highlights of the first day was the 4-wheel drive. it's a big vehicle when all 4 wheels are controlled. the guide took us to the desert and i mustered much courage to slide down from the top. it's not so scary when you do it, comparing to looking down from the top. and it's very tiring to climb all the way up.
good view for taking pictures there. i tried a toe touch but without any stretching, it looked horrible.
we went to feed wild dolphins at night. at wearing your swimming attire at that time isn't ideal because it's very cold even with a jacket on. can't get pictures of this though.
day 2 - dreamworld (gold coast).
we travelled up to the gold coast after that. the place is nice because the sea is beside the city. imagine going to orchard road and it's ngee ann city on one side, and the beach with the sea on the other.
we went to dreamworld, which is a theme park. the weather there is like singapore. the sun is hot so we had to apply sunblock, but the wind is very cooling so you hardly perspire. it's just hot in the open.
we tried this ride called the tower of terror. imagine a L. the car accelerates to 160 kph in a seven seconds and climbs to 38 stories high before dropping back down. apparently i tired to prepare myself but it was too fast to think. oh wells.
i ate my first western meal there and realised how expensive the food was. a pan pizza costs 8 aud, which is more than sgd $10.
day 3 - FARMS.
i can' remember the names. we went to catch crabs on a boat in the morning, and eat the crabs we caught after that, ate a live oyster and went fruit tasting after that. had a trip around the fruit farms. went to the superbee farm and tried different types of honey, see thousands of bees staring at you and you're just separated by a glass panel.
and finally to a place called q-deck. it's a 77-story observation tower. could see the whole view of gld there and took many nice shots!
day 4 - FREE DAY.
because we joined a tour, everything was planned for us. we were given a free day without events for on our own on sunday, and we decided to go on a shopping trip with some other families because it's quite costly to travel on our own.
went to factory outlets and picked up a few pieces of clothes from addidas because they were having a clearance sale and we had discounts above their original discounts also. however, the other things weren't very cheap. okayy, it's cheaper than singapore but it's still around aud $50 for a shirt.
there's this mall called rubica. according to our guide, it's opened by a singaporean. they're a food atrium there. literally, a whole floor with shops beside each other selling food. and apparently the longest queues went to mac. I DID NOT EAT THAT.
day 5 - warnerbros: movieworld (qld).
i preferred this to dreamworld because it's owned by warnerbros and could take pictures with the cartoon characters! unfortunately, i had no idea of their timings and missed all of the phototaking sessions.
there was this interesting performance by hollywood stunt drivers. i'm not a huge fan of cars, but they perform stunts with their cars less than 50m from you. really an eye-opener. I GOT PICTURES!
there's this coaster ride called the superman escape. i saw the ride, and my legs turned to jelly when i was queuing for it. they warned you about some amplitude thing and asked you to leave the queue if you're scared and i wanted to.
tried it anyway. i thought it wasn't as bad as the tot in dreamworld. there's another coaster called lethal weapon. it goes upside down. i was considering until my brother told me that your ears would hurt after that. then i decided to abort it.
finally, there was a parade of the cartoon characters! i got pictures though the characters kept looking on the opposite side of the road. oh wells. and i wanted to buy a shirt but was damn expensive.
and our last stop for the itenary, a REAL FACTORY OUTLET selling mostly food. i bought a kangaroo because the koalas weren't cute. HAHAHA. -
i ommitted wednesday and tuesday because there's nothing much to say going there and coming back to singapore.
for people who haven't been to australia, the shops there close around 6pm australia time, which is 4pm in singapore. hence, i start waking up at 3am and sleeping at 8pm singapore time, which is weird.
HENCE, THERE IS MINIMAL NIGHT LIFE THERE. the beaches are nice, though the sea waves are too strong for swimming because it's mostly used to surfing. the downside is that their seas have sharks. it's a risk.
okayy. it's really a lot of words and hard to imagine. i'll probably use the desktop at night and upload all the pictures! hope blogger and facebook don't give me any problems.
